The Jersey Brothers by Sally Mott Freeman
The Jersey Brothers by Sally Mott Freeman

The Jersey Brothers is a testament of love, courage and strength of three brothers, all under the callous conditions of the war. The Jersey Brothers is written by the daughter of Bill. The Jersey Brothers is based off of ten years of research that has been concluded from archives around the world, interviews with Barton’s fellow shipmates and POWS and letters. Bill and Benny both go through the greatest of lengths in order to find Barton. Bill feels responsible for him being labeled as missing-in-action, so it is Bill and Benny’s task to find their brother and bring him home. Benny is the gunnery and antiaircraft officer on the USS Enterprise, which set for the war in the Pacific. The USS Enterprise is one of the ships that was able to escape the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and by 1942 it was the last aircraft carrier in the Pacific left to fight against the Japanese. The youngest brother, Barton, is placed in the Navy Supply Corps because his mother prefers him out of harm’s way. However, this plan backfired when Barton is sent to the Philippines and is listed as missing-in-action after the Japanese capture of the Philippines. The first brother, Bill, runs the first map room in Washington DC with President Franklin D. Each of them served in the United States Navy during World War II. The Jersey Brothers is a true story about three brothers from (you guessed it) New Jersey. Out of all the books in my collection, The Jersey Brothers by Sally Mott Freeman is the one that left the greatest impression on me.
